Krka is a national park that perfectly combines forest, rocky and river terrain. It is home to a large number of animals, fish and birds. It is an amazingly beautiful place, which should be visited at least once in your life. An interesting feature of the park is the eponymous river, in which fresh and sea water flows simultaneously. For this reason, there are both freshwater and saltwater fish.
The easiest way to get here is by car. The nearest way is from Split or Zadar, the trip takes about 1.5 hours. Near the park there are two entrances: Losovac and Skradin. From here, your journey through the protected beauties begins.
Landmarks
Krka National Park is one massive attraction. The pristine nature is the main reason why tourists from all over the world come here. Cascades of waterfalls, river canyons, clear lakes, unusual flora and fauna. There are also historical monuments, by which you can learn about the past of this area.
Skradinski Buk is the most visited place in Krka. There are 17 waterfalls with the total height of 45 m. You can watch this spectacle from a hiking trail or from the cozy wooden bridges. Bathing is allowed in the bowl of the waterfall.
The waterfall Roshki Slap flows in beautiful cascades. There are not so many tourists, there is an opportunity to quietly enjoy the surrounding beauty without noise. On the territory you can visit the cafe on the shore, have a snack and a cup of delicious coffee. Nearby is an interesting cave.
On the lake Visovac there is a monastery island of the same name, where there are excursions by boat. There is a functioning church and a monastery. The territory is very beautiful, in the garden walk peacocks and flowers bloom. You can talk to the friendly monks. On the island you will rest your soul and body, because there is a gracious, enchanting atmosphere.
Also on the river Krka there are mills, where flour is milled by millstones, which are spun by the water flow. An unusual picture for the modern world. It feels as if you are transported to a bygone era.
Burnum is the ruins of a Roman amphitheater. Few people come here, so there is a chance to be alone with nature and the archaeological site.
The monastery of Krka will surprise visitors with its interior. Beautiful paintings of saints on the dome and walls, ancient icons. There is an atmosphere of silence and tranquility. The shrine is located in the river valley, so it opens up landscapes on the river and forests.
What else to do in the park
In addition to hiking, you can take a boat tour to the waterfalls or ride through the territory on quad bikes, visit the museum of national traditions, arrange a picnic. In the evening, there are sometimes concerts, which gives this place a romantic atmosphere. On the territory there are souvenir tents, where you can buy a souvenir of the reserve.
