On the border of the UAE and Oman is the high mountain of Jebel Hafeet, the second largest in the Emirates. It is considered one of the wonders of the world and the mountain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It takes 1.5-2 hours to get there by car from Dubai. If you vacation in Abu Dhabi, from the city of Al Ain the distance to the mountain is 35 km. The way goes through the deserted edges, where there is no greenery, water and housing. Meanwhile, there are amazing views of sand dunes all around. And it is a pleasure to drive on a perfectly flat road.

When paving the road to the observation deck at the top of the mountain, fossilized crabs, fish skeletons, shells and corals were found. Archaeologists claim that millions of years ago there was a sea on this spot.

Landmarks and entertainments

From the top of the mountain there is a picturesque view of the oasis, hot springs, town and caves. The Mercure Hotel is located here, where you can have a delicious meal and relax.

At the foot of the mountain is a tourist complex Green Mubazarrah, where you can swim in the pools with thermal springs, bask in a Jacuzzi, take a ride on the water slide (this entertainment is also suitable for children). There is a small golf course. Held horseback riding competitions for professionals. Beginners can simply ride an Arabian horse or a camel from the mountain. There are playgrounds for children.

The territory of the complex is equipped with barbecue, lawns and gazebos. This is a great excuse to have a picnic in the desert. And for the fans of rock climbing there is a route from the side of Mezid.

This place is unique for its archaeological finds, historical structures, camel markets and green oasis. History buffs can visit ancient tombs that are older than the pyramids of Giza. The remains of skeletons with jewelry made of pearls and bronze have been found in them.

There are caves in the mountain that can be explored. About 6,000 years ago people lived here. As you walk, you meet local inhabitants such as foxes, snakes and bats.

The views from the mountain are very beautiful at sunset and in the evening, when the trail is illuminated by lanterns and the city lights up in the distance.

The best time to visit

The most comfortable time to arrive is from November to March. The rest of the year, the sun is too scorching and the heat prevents you from enjoying the beauty in peace. To take beautiful pictures, then the sunset time is ideal for this.

Also in winter there are bicycle races that attract participants and tourists from all over the world.
